Wedding bells for Abhishek, Rani?
Never mind two years ago the Abhishek Bachchan - Karishma Kapoor romance was at its peak and doing a dizzy round of the grapevine. And now not so long ago in the recent past alleged rumours of the Abhishek Bachchan - Rani Mukherjee romance had started gaining momentum. Their love story had taken off on the sets of Mani Ratnam’s film Yuva.
Finally it was secretly decided to officially announce the engagement on Big B’s next birthday on Oct 11 this year.
And the next thing one knew was that Abhishek and Rani had already, allegedly, got engaged on the Queen Bee’s birthday on March 21st in one of Goa’s beach resort where Rani was holidaying.

Karan Johar signed up 'Bunty Aur Babli' stars!
Yash Raj film's forthcoming movie 'Bunty Aur Babli' has already generated ripples in Bollywood showbiz for different reasons. As it is featuring Big B and son Abhishek together for the first time and on the other hand Rani Mukherji pairs up with beau Abhishek for second time after 'Yuva', it has already become a talk of the town.
However, after Karan Johar announced his next directorial venture, the uniqueness and the freshness of the star cast of the film 'Bunty Aur Babli' got hampered a little bit. Because, Karan Johar has all set to cast the interesting combination of Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukherji in his next. And the three have already been signed up. As Big B recently revealed to us that, he has little to do with Rani in this film. Big B will be playing just a cameo in this Karan Johar's next.

Rani Mukherjee has a lot to be happy about: plaudits galore for her sublime perfomance in Black and a dinner with the heads of state of India and Pakistan, President Abdul Kalam, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistani President General Parvesh Musharaff.
Speaking about this privilege, she says "I enjoyed being in their company. It was so different and awe-inspiring. When Musharaff and Begumsahiba met me, the later complimented me on my looks and jewellery. They also talked very highly about our film industry. Interestingly our President advised Musharaff saab to watch Black."
On President Musharaff's invitation to visit his country, she says, "I'd love to go there. But first I want my films to release there. We have a tremendous fan following there."
Moving on to films, Rani considers Black to be her best perfomance so far. She says, "It took me to new heights. I can never repay Sanjay Bhansali." Rani is currently looking forward to two of her films, Bunty aur Bubbly with Abhishek Bachchan and Paheli, with Shah Rukh Khan. "After my incredibly intense perfomances in recent films, I really needed a chirpy role like Bunty... It's like partying and rejuvenating"
Rani is delighted about the Abhishek-Rani pair being touted as the next big 'on-screen couple', but there's no romance brewing between the two "because we are very close friends, the chemistry translates onto the screen." But are they a potential pair on-screen? Rani replies, There is really nothing happening. We haven't thought about that. We are very fond of each other. I am sure Abhishek will find a lovely girl." So then who is her ideal man? "Somebody who is self made, with a mind of his own, who would respect my family and me."
She believes that the SRK-Rani on-screen pair is the best and the hottest.

A bold confession: Rani gets hotter with SRK than Abhishek Latha Sruinivasan May 12, 2005
It is a straight and passionate confession. Rani Mukherjee gets hot real hot in presence of SRK! And the heat is way higher with SRK than Abhishek!
Rani is delighted about the Abhishek-Rani pair being touted as the next big ‘on-screen couple’, but there’s no romance brewing between the two “because we are very close friends, the chemistry translates onto screen.” But are they a potential pair offscreen? To this, Rani replies, “There is really nothing happening. We haven’t thought about that. We are very fond of each other. I am sure Abhishek will find a lovely girl.” So then who is her ideal man? “Somebody who is self-made, with a mind of his own, who would respect my family and me.”
Contrary to the popular belief, she believes that the SRK-Rani on-screen pair is the best. “I always feel I looked best with SRK, and perform better with him. I love romancing him and Aamir on-screen. Off-screen they have their respective partners. I can try my luck as their love interest in my next birth,” she laughingly quips. She continues, “I am talking completely from a fan’s point of view. I started out quite young, and today of course, the equation is more that of friends, I learnt everything from them. Subconsciously, I have always followed them.”

Abhishek Bachchan on taking tips from Rani Mukerji and being Bollywood’s most eligible bachelor.
Posted online: Sunday, May 29, 2005 at 0000 hours IST
Did your parents give you anything special after Dhoom? No. Why should they?
Because it was your first hit after 14 flops. So? I always have their love, that’s the most important thing.
Has life changed after Dhoom? Evidently, Dhoom reassured a lot of people about working with me. It gave my producers and directors the confidence to market their films better.
You play a con man in Bunty aur Babli? Yeah, he’s a small town kid, who feels stifled by his surroundings, and leaves home to chase his dreams. Bunty is effervescent, fun loving, quick thinking and carefree. He’s still a child at heart. Sounds a lot like you. In a certain sense, yes. But, I don’t think as fast as he does.
Has Abhishek Bachchan ever conned anyone? No, and nobody has ever conned me either. Thank god for that.
They compare your on-screen chemistry with Rani Mukerji to your parents’ in Zanjeer. Really? No pressure, please.
But you’ve got to agree that the two of you share an amazing chemistry. Well, we are good friends, and Rani is wonderful on the sets. The comfort translates well on screen. I really enjoy working with her, maybe that shows.
Is Rani a better friend or co-star? She’s wonderful in both roles.
Have you picked up any acting tips from her? I always try to be as spontaneous as she is. But it is not very easy.
What do you have to say about your newly-acquired image as a Casanova? I don’t agree with it.
This is the first time you’ve acted with your father. How did the two of you interact on the sets? Both as a father and as a co-star. He managed to mix the two better than I did. There were times when he treated me like a junior actor, and then when I did something right, he would say, ‘Good shot, son’. Actually, he can handle us working together better than I can. It’s really difficult for me because I can’t treat him as just another co-artiste. Dad will always be dad. I can never get over the awe of working with him. Most of the time, I just want to stand aside and watch.
Is there a danger of you imitating him? Well, when I came into the industry, I was accused of imitating him all the time. My reasoning is that you do what you have to do with sincerity. Dad is a just a reference point, and I am just... me.
Ram Gopal Varma says that you are better than your dad. (Grimaces) He’s lying. Ramu’s just being nice. I think he said that because he wanted me to finish my dubbing for Sarkar quickly.
You are a mamma’s boy, aren’t you? Well, dad’s my best friend, and mom’s my mom. She still picks out my clothes. Though these days, sometimes I also ask dad to do the honours.
You’re kidding, right? No, I’m telling you the truth. I’ve just never really been into clothes and dressing up.
That’s a revelation about Bollywood’s most eligible bachelor. I don’t think you’re talking about me.

And Abhishek Bachchan? Abhishek is my buddy. He is junior to Shah Rukh and Aamir Khan and only two years older than me, so I’m at liberty to bully him. We are extremely comfortable with each other and can improvise the most complex or intimate scene without discussion or fear of being misunderstood.
That’s all? That’s all, I wish people would stop seeing beyond our screen image for these rumours are bound to affect our spontaneity sooner or later.
Do you say this because you feel self-conscious with his father, Amitabh Bhachchan?
Nothing in the world can make me self-conscious with Amit uncle. We’ve done three films (Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, Black, Bunty Aur Babli) together and in the coming months, there will be two more (Babul and Khabhi Alvida Na Kehna). I love him too much to be bothered about any judgements or speculations. When we are together, I stare at him unashamedly, so much so that on the sets of Bunty Aur Babli Abhishek would plead with me to also look at him. He’d say you cannot only stare at dad, you have to look at me too.

Behind the scenes at Screen Awards
Pleasant surprise
Amitabh Bachchan, who couldn’t be at the function for obvious reasons, got a pleasant surprise when the entire Black team—Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Rani Mukherjee et al — came to his residence at Jalsa to share the triumph. “I must say it was a touching moment, when Sanjay and the Black team came over after the awards,” says AB.

Jaya: Behave, Abhishek
Even though the Star Screen awards are over, there is still enough buzz surrounding the event. Not so much about the winners, but over the off-screen chemistry between Rani Mukerji and Abhishek Bachchan. One didn’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure out what’s brewing between the two. Not only did Rani run down the stage with her award to hug Abhishek but they also kept exchanging SMSes even though they were sitting close-by.We hear that this behaviour of the young blood didn’t go down too well with mama Bachchan and she later on warned Abhi to be careful next time he’s in front of the cameras. Should JB have practiced what she preaches? We noticed the icy vibes and the cold shoulder she gave Rani at the same function? It got caught on camera too, mama Bachchan!

What Rani likes most about Abhishek...
Queen Bee Rani Mukherjee and Abhishek Bachchan make a great on-screen pair. But ever wondered what Rani likes most about her Yuva co-star? Ask her that question and she eagerly shares her thoughts on the topic. "What I like most about Abhishek is that he's not proud, in spite of being born in the Bachchan household and with a high educational and cultural pedigree. He's so well-be-haved and dignified," she says. For a man so tall already, we doubt if such high praise could make him walk any higher!
