By Vickey Lalwani ©2006 Bollyvista.com
Jaya Bachchan and Rani Mukerji did not attend Hema Malini's ballet dance Krishna Rasa, which she performed recently. Hema had invited Jaya, but Jaya was not in Mumbai on those days. Hema also invited Rani, because she wanted to see her dance, but Rani was in Varanasi and could not make it either.

Rani Mukherjee topples over co-star Salman while trying to ride a bicycle
Rani Mukherjee’s next film ‘Baabul’ with co-star Salman Khan is all set for release. The film has been directed by Ravi Chopra and also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini and John Abraham. Recently an incident while shooting for the film has left Rani really embarrassed. The sequence required Rani to ride a bicycle along with actor Salman Khan on the scene. However Rani does not know how to ride a bicycle, but the actress who was embarrassed about the situation refused to let the others on the film sets know about her inability. What followed was a ruckus, Rani ended up ramming the cycle into actor Salman Khan and both toppled over.
Director Ravi Chopra was aware that Rani does not know how to ride a cycle, so he suggested that she rehearse a bit before getting onto the bike; however the adamant Rani refused to acknowledge the fact that she does not know how to ride a bicycle in front of the rest of the cast and crew. So the actress decided to just give the shot and didn’t bother to ask for help. However Rani kept fidgeting when she got on to the bike and hence co-star Salman offered to help, however Rani refused any help and pretended that she was an expert bike rider. Rani began to ride the bicycle and even managed to do so for a bit, however director Chopra says “Rani started off well however after a while everyone in the unit was waiting for Rani to stop. Salman was standing at a distance. But the next thing we knew that Rani had rammed the bike into Salman and both toppled over.”
However the director was relieved to see that both his stars had not been seriously hurt by the fall and only had minor bruises. Rani on her part was extremely embarrassed by the entire scene but then later sportingly joined in the laughter at her expense. Rani even apologized to Salman and the actor in his typical witty manner replied “Now you know why I wanted to help you…….I was bothered about my life.”
Rani will also soon be seen in Yash Raj film ‘Tara Rum Pum’ with Saif Ali Khan and she is also shooting for another Yash Raj film in Varanasi where recently there was a huge controversy involving Rani . The film also stars Konkana Sen Sharma, Jaya Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan.

Hall of frame Booked: The bonding between Rani Mukherji and Salman Khan is evident in this picture of Ravi Chopra's Baabul. The shot needed both actors to be engrossed reading a novel. However, while shooting Salman would read the verses out in his pseudo-Italian accent and Rani would burst into laughter. Finally, only after Chopra intervened, did Salman give the shot seriously. "The film belongs to Rani and she will sweep all the awards next year," says Chopra. We like the confidence. But as for the fate of the film and Rani's performance, let's keep it as 'time will tell'.

Friends in arms
Rani Mukherji finds a new friend in choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant. They bonded during the shooting of Siddharth Anand’s Tara Rum Pum in New York
Subhash K Jha for Mumbai Mirror, 20/11/2006
While her friendship with Kareena, Aishwarya and Priyanka soured, Rani Mukherji discovered a friend in choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant while shooting for Siddharth Anand's Tara Rum Pum in New York.
"She wasn't only my choreographer but also my constant companion, and the only friend far away from home with whom I bonded constantly," Rani says.
Rani Mukherji's infectious laughter dispels all theories about her currently assumed reclusive status. "I really don't like to let the world know what I'm doing every day of my life. The truth is that I was shooting in New York for Siddharth Anand's Tara Rum Pum. Siddharth was with me in school. He had earlier assisted Kunal Kohli on Mujhse Dosti Karogi and now he is directing me!"
The truth of the matter was that when Rani was busy shooting for Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna in New York she was completely cut off from Mumbai. "It was fun to be on my own. And when I got home-sick I got my parents to visit me over there. When I'm on location abroad I prefer to stay cut off. This time my absence was glaring because I had KANK up for release and everyone wondered why I wasn't here to promote the film," she says.
And now, she's busy with Baabul. "People often talk about the daughter-in-law being equal in status to the daughter. But does that actually hold? My father-in-law in Baabul, believes so. I think audiences will get to see an all-new side of me and Amitji after Black and KANK in Baabul."
Recently, Rani completed a schedule with Sanjay Leela Bhansali before proceeding to Varanasi for this film. "Since I've been keeping a low-profile, people have been making up stories about how I play a courtesan in Saanwariya. No such thing! Let the film be released and everyone will see what Sanjay and I have done together," she says.

Cheekmate!Harsh Chhaya is still recovering, after being slapped by Rani Mukherji while shooting for Laaga Chunri Mein Daag Rani Mukherji takes her craft rather seriously. Recently, the actress, in full josh to deliver a perfect slap for Yash Chopra's Laaga Chunri Mein Daag, slapped actor Harsh Chhaya really hard across the face! Harsh Chhaya was quite enthused by the idea of working with Rani. He quite enjoyed it too, until his cheek got to bear the brunt of Rani's enthusiasm. "I shot with Rani only for two days. During a particular scene, she was supposed to slap me really hard on my face. We tried to make do with a cheat-shot but the director didn't seem too happy with it. After a while, Rani decided to actually slap me, in the sense of making contact with my cheek hard. I told her to go ahead, as I was okay with being hit," says Harsh. However, Harsh regretted his courage later, when Rani slapped him with full force. "She hit me so hard that my spectacles went flying away. Every time my glasses would fall off, so we had to take two retakes. I was getting prepared for the third take when the shot was okayed. I got lucky, I guess," he says. Harsh adds jokingly, "After this experience, I thought I must warn all those guys out there to never ever misbehave with Rani. She might look petite but she is very strong. I can still feel the impact of the slap she gave me!"
