“I Compete With Myself,” claims Rani Mukherjee By Faridoon Shahryar, IndiaGlitz [Thursday, November 09, 2006] “I compete with myself,” claimed Rani Maukherjee in a television interview yesterday. She also said that she has always tried to better herself with each passing role. Be it ‘Saathiya’, ‘Chalte Chalte’, ‘Bunty Aur Babli’, ‘Veer Zaara’, ‘Black’ or the more recent ‘Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna’. She says that she has always consciously tried to be different in all her performances. And the reason why she says that there’s no competition for her is that since she is competing to better her earlier performances she doesn’t feel like comparing herself with any other actress’ work.
Rani is excited about her next release ‘Babul’. Directed by Ravi Chopra, it’s an exciting project where when she loses her husband, her in-laws marry her off to another man. And they say goodbye to her not as in-laws but as parents. She also shot for Sidharth Anand’s ‘Tara Rum Pum’ in US recently and if the grapevine is to be believed then she shall also be doing a courtesan’s song-n-dance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Saawariya’. It seems her work is cut out and she has exciting times ahead.

Now Rani to play a courtesan! by Debasis Jana
After Aishwarya Rai, who played a courtesan in J.P. Dutta's ‘Umrao Jaan', it's now another leading actress, Rani Mukherji, to play the same in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's next film, titled ‘Saawariya'. As per rumours, Rani will be doing a huge courtesan number in ‘Saawariya'.
However Rani will not play lead role in the film. Rishi Kapoor's son Ranbir Kapoor and Anil Kapoor's daughter Sonam, who are making their debut in the film, will play the main romantic lead.
Rani Mukherji's upcoming releases are Ravi Chopra's family drama ‘Baabul' and Siddharth Anand's ‘Tara Rum Pum'.

‘Baabul’ costume: Manish Malhotra dropped because of Rani! by Debasis Jana
It was Manish Malhotra to design Rani's costumes for forthcoming ‘Baabul', but on Rani's insistence, Manish dropped and Rani's close pal Sabyasachi Mukherji roped in for the job.
"However Rani is still very fond of Manish as a person, but she has been wearing Manish's clothes for too long. She wanted to do something really different for ‘Baabul',” said a source.
When contacted, director Ravi Chopra said, initially he wanted Manish to design clothes for Rani, but later he dropped his idea because Rani put her foot down and insisted on Sabyasachi.
“I was also sceptical about the fact that as Manish was doing ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna', the costumes might look the same," added Ravi Chopra.
As per reports, Rani has become so fond of Sabyasachi's design that she has set to recommend Sabya's name to Aditya Chopra and other top-ranking producers.

'I get nightmares before a new film' Thursday, November 09, 2006 07:56:09 am
The ravishing Rani Mukherjee gets candid as she tells TIMES NOW editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami that she sees herself as her only competition. Excerpts:
AG: You were fantastic in Black. It was very different from the other roles you've done and was acclaimed.
RM: Please pray that there are more directors who come out with more scripts like that and more films like that. I as an actor unfortunately, am at the receiving end. So if a director offers me a role or writes a role like that for me, then I would definitely do it.
AG: When Sanjay Leela Bhansali took you for Black, and Aishwarya did Devdas before that, some people said that you were friends before that, but then the competition really became intense.
RM: I don't think there's any competition. Sanjay is competing with his own films. Here you've got the competition wrong. As an actor I want to better each film I do. I want to be better than I was in my previous film. Similarly, a director wants to better his previous work. Honestly, I believe that every actor competes with himself or herself. Another actor may think differently, but I compete with myself. For me it is very important that my fans love me in all the films that I do. They should genuinely feel that I have not let them down, that I wasn't better in my previous film. I truly only compare myself to myself. And I get nightmares about that. Before I start work on a new film, when I am preparing for a new film, I get so into character because I want to do something different every time.
Watch the complete interview with Rani Mukherjee on Frankly Speaking on Sunday at 2:30 PM and the repeat telecast at 8:30 PM.
if anyone knows which channel they are showing this interview can you please tell me and if you have the channel please record it and put it up on youtube thank you
