Interview: Rani Mukherji
“I do give more than my 100% to every role I take up”
Tell us your role in this film?
It’s unusual. I play a fibber a nautanki who is always lying and getting entangled in difficult situations. She’s this great dramebaaz who lies her way out of every situation.
Ajay Devgan is your brother in law-how was it working with him?
Very nice, He’s my senior and I make it a point to learn from my seniors-so for me it’s continuous process of learning.
It has often happened that you do a film, which others have rejected?
That’s part and parcel of the workings of the film industry-roles are refused due to several reasons like date problems etc. I have refused many roles, which have been done by others. If the media didn’t create stories around it-the reasons are quite straightforward really.
It’s become a granted to cast you in a film when one wants a hit-comment?
I haven’t thought of it like that but I do give more than my 100% to every role I take up. I have been lucky to work with people like Aamir Khan who taught me the value of being committed to any project one does and I do the same and find myself enjoying my work because I’m totally involved in it. In any case I think I’m sincere to my work perhaps that’s why filmmakers feel this way.
You had a lot of films with Govinda- at one time – why aren’t you doing any more films with him?
I haven’t been offered any film with him currently but if I am I will definitely be happy to work with him again. He is the master of comedy and I get to learn from him, which is very enjoyable. He’s great fun to work with too.
What does Rani do in her leisure time?
I chill at home-I’m a home bird-I don’t do much work round the house I must admit but I keep my own room in order that’s all. I don’t cook.
